Immediately afterwards we find the extraordinary inlets of Cala Francese and Carlotto, characterised by transparent sea beds and small white sandy beaches. There are old military fortifications, as in the rest of the archipelago, which demonstrate the strategic position that the island of La Maddalena had in the Mediterranean during times of war.
